Healthcare

Hospitals, health clinics or medical centers providing health services and care.

Our Resource Directory for LGBTQ older adults aims to help people looking for LGBTQ–welcoming services for themselves, a loved one or a client.  The Directory is not meant to endorse or guarantee the sensitivity of any provider. However, we do indicate which organizations and providers report having non-discrimination policies that specifically include sexual orientation (SO) and/or gender identity (GI). The Generations Aging with Pride logo  is indicated next to providers that have had one or more staff members attend our evidence-based training.

Summary:  Emerald City Medical Arts of Seattle is a community-centered family practice encouraging the concept of health literacy with our patients. Scott Hansen, our Nurse Practitioner, has experience working with the senior population, including members of the LGBTQ community. We believe there are numerous challenges facing the lives of older people including a large number trying to access culturally sensitive healthcare. Many seniors have faced inequity in the quality of services from the medical community and some have even been denied adequate are due to their sexual orientation and gender identity. This leads to many choosing not to seek medical treatment and for others to not disclose personal information for fear of discrimination. Our medical practitioner, Scott Hansen strongly encourages the empowerment and proactive participation of older patients at Emerald City Medical Arts. He and his partner of 19 years strongly believe in trying to address the unmet needs of our older LGBTQ community through respect and empowerment in a caring and nurturing environment.
