Hospice & Palliative Care

Hospice care is appropriate when the focus of care is comfort and treatment of pain at the end of life rather than curative. This is an approach that emphasizes quality of life with a limited life expectancy. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death; it affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. The hospice program stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs which include psycho-social and spiritual care to the individual and family. Palliative care provides comfort care throughout the course of a disease. It focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness – whatever the diagnosis. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.

Our Resource Directory for LGBTQ older adults aims to help people looking for LGBTQ–welcoming services for themselves, a loved one or a client.  The Directory is not meant to endorse or guarantee the sensitivity of any provider. However, we do indicate which organizations and providers report having non-discrimination policies that specifically include sexual orientation (SO) and/or gender identity (GI). The Generations Aging with Pride logo  is indicated next to providers that have had one or more staff members attend our evidence-based training.
